So we just heard that the new Ford GT is rumored to cost $400,000. That's a lot of money, so much so that there's only a handful of cars that cost more. Here's what I could think of for production road going cars sold in the US.

Rolls Royce Phantom $408,000 The Rolls flagships starts just barely over 400k

Kinja'd!!!

Lamborghini Aventador Roadster $450,000 The base Aventador doesn't even break 400k, but the roadster, anniversary do. Certainly the new SV model will too.

Kinja'd!!!

Porsche 918 - $867,000 Naturally the trio of super cars cost more than 400k

Kinja'd!!!

McLaren P1 One million plus

Kinja'd!!!

Ferrari LaFerrai One Million plus

Kinja'd!!!

Bugatti Veyron - One Million plus sold out

Kinja'd!!!

Pagani Huayra - One million plus sold out (not really enough units to be a regular production car anyway)

Kinja'd!!!

Koenigsegge Agera- One million plus (not really enough units to be a regular production car anyway)

A Bentley Mulsanne will approach close to $500k. Didn't check to see what it starts at, but probably close to $400k.

I think it starts around $304k, but I'm sure it can be optioned to over 400.

I like Wikipedia's rule of a 20 examples to qualify as a production car, which would exclude this and others like it.

I wonder what they bench marked the GT against. I assume the 650S since the 458 is dead and the Huracan has just been born which should be good since the 650s is a stupidly fast car. Either way I'm curious what the reception will be to it as I think they should of gone down the R8 route of volume rather than the Ferrari route of limited production because the Ford badge isn't something you usually associated with 6 figure sums.

Wow, it's surprisingly hard to tell the difference, I guess the price tag is the biggest clue.

Considering how well the old GT has held value over time, seems like the limited numbers aren't a bad idea. Anyone who buys one of these is almost guaranteed to be able to sell it for what they paid or more after several years.

Yeah I thought it would be 150-250 range with 458/Huracan/650S performance. I'm skeptical that it will be substantially fast than a 488 or 675LT

I'm ford guy by heart but $400K for a Ford is completely ludicrous.

If you honestly think I would buy a Ford(no matter how good it really is) before an Aventador or a Rolls Royce Phantom than you are a special kind of crazy. I understand that the Ford will likely go up in value just like the old GT did but still its just a Ford. I would of thought for sure it would of been priced around the $150K mark.

And you guys thought spending $60K on a Kia K900 was crazy.

Wikipedia's rule? Since when is Wikipedia making rules?

It makes rules for people editing wiki pages. For example: no cars on the 'fastest production cars' list that have fewer than 20 examples. Seems like a good cut off for what's considered "production" to me.

Rules like that is why the Veyron is still in production long after interest has died out, but you have to build your own Caterham.
